In February 2022, China's automobile production and sales maintained stable year-on-year growth; new energy vehicle production and sales continued to maintain rapid growth, with the market penetration rate reaching 17.9% from January to February.
I. Automobile sales in February increased by 18.7% year-on-year
In February, automobile production and sales reached 1.813 million units and 1.737 million units respectively, decreasing by 25.2% and 31.4% month-on-month, while increasing by 20.6% and 18.7% year-on-year respectively.
From January to February, automobile production and sales reached 4.235 million units and 4.268 million units respectively, increasing by 8.8% and 7.5% year-on-year respectively, with the growth rates rising by 7.4 percentage points and 6.6 percentage points respectively compared to January.

(I) Passenger vehicle sales in February increased by 27.8% year-on-year
In February, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 1.534 million units and 1.487 million units respectively, increasing by 32.0% and 27.8% year-on-year respectively. By vehicle type, sedan production and sales reached 704,000 units and 687,000 units respectively, increasing by 29.6% and 28.4% year-on-year respectively; SUV production and sales reached 756,000 units and 734,000 units respectively, increasing by 36.6% and 29.6% year-on-year respectively; MPV production reached 49,000 units, decreasing by 1.0% year-on-year, while sales reached 52,000 units, increasing by 12.9% year-on-year; crossover passenger vehicle production reached 26,000 units, increasing by 54.6% year-on-year, while sales reached 15,000 units, decreasing by 9.5% year-on-year.
From January to February, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 3.612 million units and 3.674 million units respectively, increasing by 17.6% and 14.4% year-on-year respectively. By vehicle type, sedan production and sales reached 1.666 million units and 1.705 million units respectively, increasing by 15.8% and 12.8% year-on-year respectively; SUV production and sales reached 1.762 million units and 1.790 million units respectively, increasing by 20.7% and 16.4% year-on-year respectively; MPV production reached 126,000 units, decreasing by 4.9% year-on-year, while sales reached 133,000 units, increasing by 3.8% year-on-year; crossover passenger vehicle production and sales reached 57,000 units and 45,000 units respectively, increasing by 39.5% and 35.2% year-on-year respectively.

In February, Chinese brand passenger vehicles sold 634,000 units, up 27.9% year-on-year, accounting for 42.6% of total passenger vehicle sales, with the market share remaining basically flat compared with the same period last year.
From January to February, Chinese brand passenger vehicles accumulated sales of 1.637 million units, up 20.3% year-on-year, accounting for 44.6% of total passenger vehicle sales, with market share rising by 2.2 percentage points year-on-year. Among them, sedan sales reached 583,000 units, up 45.2% year-on-year, with a market share of 34.2%; SUV sales reached 942,000 units, up 11.7% year-on-year, with a market share of 52.6%; MPV sales reached 67,000 units, down 18.5% year-on-year, with a market share of 50.3%.
(II) Commercial vehicle sales in February decreased by 16.6% year-on-year
In February, commercial vehicle production and sales reached 279,000 units and 250,000 units respectively, down 18.3% and 16.6% year-on-year respectively. By vehicle type, truck production and sales reached 254,000 units and 227,000 units respectively, down 19.4% and 17.8% year-on-year respectively; bus production and sales reached 25,000 units and 23,000 units respectively, down 5.3% and 3.6% year-on-year respectively.
From January to February, commercial vehicle production and sales reached 624,000 units and 594,000 units respectively, down 24.0% and 21.7% year-on-year respectively. By vehicle type, truck production and sales reached 570,000 units and 540,000 units respectively, down 25.0% and 22.7% year-on-year respectively; bus production and sales both reached 54,000 units, down 10.8% and 10.9% year-on-year respectively.

II. New energy vehicle sales in February increased by 1.8 times year-on-year
In February, NEV production and sales reached 368,000 units and 334,000 units respectively, up 2.0 times and 1.8 times year-on-year respectively, with a market penetration rate of 19.2%. By vehicle type, BEV production and sales reached 285,000 units and 258,000 units respectively, up 1.7 times and 1.6 times year-on-year respectively; PHEV production and sales reached 83,000 units and 75,000 units respectively, up 4.1 times and 3.4 times year-on-year respectively; FCEV production and sales reached 213 units and 178 units respectively, up 7.5 times and 5.4 times year-on-year respectively.
From January to February, NEV production and sales reached 820,000 units and 765,000 units respectively, up 1.6 times and 1.5 times year-on-year respectively, with a market penetration rate of 17.9%. By vehicle type, BEV production and sales reached 652,000 units and 604,000 units respectively, both up 1.4 times year-on-year; PHEV production and sales reached 168,000 units and 160,000 units respectively, up 2.8 times and 2.5 times year-on-year respectively; FCEV production and sales reached 356 units and 371 units respectively, up 5.0 times and 3.1 times year-on-year respectively.

III. Automobile exports in February increased by 60.8% year-on-year
In February, automobile exports reached 180,000 units, up 60.8% year-on-year. By vehicle type, passenger vehicle exports reached 146,000 units, up 72.3% year-on-year; commercial vehicle exports reached 34,000 units, up 25.4% year-on-year. NEV exports reached 48,000 units, up 2.7 times year-on-year.
From January to February, automobile exports reached 412,000 units, up 75.0% year-on-year. By vehicle type, passenger vehicle exports reached 331,000 units, up 84.0% year-on-year; commercial vehicle exports reached 81,000 units, up 45.7% year-on-year. NEV exports reached 104,000 units, up 3.8 times year-on-year.
